New Shooter Information for the AHT Team

Click here to download this information.

Registration for the 2011‐2012 season will start in October. The Arlington Trappers team is open to all male and female students. Tryouts for participation are not required. If your student is interested in participating, they will need the following to begin:

Completion of an approved Hunters Safety Course – Your shooter must provide proof of successful completion of course before they are allowed on the firing range. The following link will provide the contact and schedule information for the TWRA classes. (http://www.state.tn.us/twra/hunteredclass1.html)

Own or buy a 12 Gauge Shotgun (Automatic or over/under are recommended) – If you are going to buy a gun, we suggest that you talk with Coach Simons or one of our assistant coaches before making a purchase. A standard field gun will not last due to the large number of rounds (approximately 3500‐4000) we shoot during the season. All firearms must be inspected by our coaches for safety prior to use.

Knowledge of Trap Shooting is not required. Our coaches will teach your shooter the rules, commands, and safety requirements of Trap Shooting. Your shooter will be trained on proper techniques of handling and firing their shotgun. We have a ZERO Tolerance Safety Policy. HORSEPLAY IS NOT ALLOWED. SAFETY IS PARAMOUNT AT ALL TIMES. A copy of the Arlington Trappers Handbook is available online. For more information on the Arlington Trappers or Trap Shooting, please see the following websites:

The Trappers offer a "Try it & See if you like it" two month trial period to new potential shooters .Shooters will register and pay the $200 initial registration fee. This covers the costs associated with your shooter participating in the November and December practices. In December, you and your shooter will need to declare if you are staying with the team. This fee is non-refundable – however, it is included in the shooter's total fees due for the season.

Our new season registration will begin in October. Our first Parents Meeting will be the second Thursday in October at 6:30 pm in the Arlington High School Library. We encourage all parents and shooters to attend. Team meetings are normally scheduled for the 2nd Thursday of the month. The Arlington Trappers Head Coach is Kurt Simons (ksimons@scsk12.org). Official practices start in November. Our competition season runs from February through the middle of July.

Registration packets can be picked up from Coach Simons at school starting in October or the registration forms can be emailed to you at your request. We will have registration packets available at the meeting as well. All parental consent and release paperwork for the Arlington Trappers, MSSA, TNSCTP, and SSSF must be completed and turned in to the team secretary before a shooter will be allowed to participate on the range. If possible, please provide two copies of the completed paperwork.

Registration paperwork and the initial registration fee of $200 are due by October 31st. This covers the shooter's registration fees and the cost of ammunition and targets (birds) for the practices in November and December.

The 2010-2011 season fees (including the initial $200 registration fee) for returning shooters was $2,200. The 2010-2011 season fees (including the initial $200 registration fee) for new shooters was $2,200 plus $125 new uniform fee. We anticipate the 2011-2012 fees to be the same. We will not have final budget costs until the Parents Meeting in October.
