Lewis Class winners were Class 1 - Hunter Bourland-Bolton (94), Class 2 - Rob Hyde-St. George's (84), Class 3 - Michael Gore-St. George's (74), Class 4 - David Lindsey-Arlington (62). Spegele shot two straight 25’s while Cochran, Pitts, and John Hunt-CBHS shot one straight 25 run.
Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) has been called "the Little League of shooting sports." In 2007, participation around the country reached nearly 10,000. The invitational was the second for the Shelby County SCTP, which represents local public and private school trap shooting teams and was formed to help promote trap shooting among high schoolers in Shelby County. According to Kevin Carter, Houston High School coach and co-organizer of the event, “It was great to see so many excited young athletes participating in our opening event. This is just the first of four events we will have during this school year. I am happy to see an environment these students can participate in which promotes safe handling of firearms and dedication to the sport of trap shooting.”
Schools in Shelby County formed their first trap teams in the fall of 2005, thanks to the cooperative efforts of Carter, Bill Cox of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Commission and Ron Lollar of the Shelby County School Board. Through organized clay target shooting, kids are learning lifelong skills such as gun safety, teamwork, respect for self and others, mental focus and self-discipline. SCTP is a program of National Shooting Sports Foundation managed in partnership with numerous sponsors, agencies and organizations, including Amateur Trapshooting Association, Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency and Tennessee Wildlife Federation. The National Rifle Association Foundation supports the local program through grants.
