Arlington High School Dominates First SCSCTP Shoot

Saturday morning dawned cold and cloudy at the Memphis Sport Shooting Association for the season opener of the Shelby County Scholastic Clay Target Program 50 round Team Trap Shooting Competition. Winning first place in the Varsity division was an Arlington High School squad led by Captain Drew Reed. Reed’s squad (Matt Lollar, Eric Bence, Jarrett Spegele, and Josh Sexton) shot a 232, just one point over the shoot’s second place squad (Taylor Garrison, Jacob Leggett, Curtis Robinson, Brandon Barker) captained by Arlington Senior Cody Cochran. Christian Brothers #6 took third place with a 218.
Arlington’s JV squad (Cameron Schexnaildre, Matthew Rose, Cody Magness, Jonathan Scott, Seth Harrod), earned second place with a 198 behind St. George’s winning 208. Squad Captain Schexnaildre earned his “25 Straight” patch at the competition. Besides Schexnaildre, Reed, Lollar, Spegele, Cochran, and Garrison also shot straight 25’s.
Arlington’s talented athletes snagged individual honors as well. Senior Meredith Smith won the Top Lady title with a 41, and Junior Taylor Garrison eventually took the Top Shooter award with a shoot-off following a three-way tied high score of 49 between Garrison, Matt Lollar and Cody Cochran.
The next Shelby County SCTP Team Competition is scheduled for March 22, 2008 at MSSA.
